January 14th, 2025 by

General Motors achieved remarkable success in 2024, enhancing U.S. sales and market share with a refreshed lineup of both electric and internal combustion engine vehicles. This growth underscores GM’s commitment to delivering a diverse and innovative portfolio that meets a wide range of customer preferences.

Throughout the year, GM’s overall sales rose by an impressive 4%, reaching 2.7 million vehicles—the company’s highest annual total since 2019. GM estimates its 2024 market share at 16.5%, a significant accomplishment in a competitive industry. The company also ended the year with an inventory level equating to approximately 54 days, perfectly aligned with its target. Each of GM’s brands—Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac—experienced strong sales growth, contributing to this success.

The fourth quarter proved particularly fruitful, with sales increasing by 21% compared to the same period in 2023. Electric vehicle (EV) sales saw exceptional momentum, surging 50% for the year and 125% in the fourth quarter alone. Additionally, GM retained its title as the leading seller of full-size pickups for the fifth consecutive year, achieving the highest annual sales for this segment since 2007. GM also maintained its dominant position in the full-size SUV market, marking an extraordinary 50th consecutive year as the segment leader.

It was a great year for us across our product lines,” said Rory Harvey, GM executive VP and president of global markets. “How did we do it? By investing to have the best portfolio in the industry. We have something for everyone, no matter what they like to drive.” [1]

All four of GM’s major brands experienced growth in 2024. Chevrolet posted a 1.5% sales increase, marking its highest annual sales since 2019. Cadillac delivered its best annual and quarterly sales since 2016, driven by robust demand for the Escalade—the top large luxury SUV for the 11th consecutive year—and the LYRIQ, which now leads the mid-size luxury EV segment.

GMC enjoyed its most successful year in history, with total sales rising 9%, including a remarkable 33% increase in the fourth quarter. The Sierra and Canyon both achieved record-breaking sales, while the Denali sub-brand celebrated its 25th anniversary with a record year of its own. GMC’s ability to combine luxury and capability has clearly resonated with consumers.

Buick also posted impressive results, with sales growing 10% to reach the highest total since 2021. The Envista emerged as a key driver of this success, with fourth-quarter sales jumping 57%. Buick’s emphasis on sleek design, advanced technology, and exceptional value continues to attract new customers.

Buick and GMC exemplify GM’s commitment to providing exceptional vehicles that meet the diverse needs of today’s drivers. Buick, with its refined elegance and innovative features, has positioned itself as a brand of choice for those seeking sophistication and practicality. Models like the Encore GX and Envista showcase Buick’s ability to deliver style, comfort, and advanced technology in an accessible package. These qualities have helped Buick attract a new wave of customers who value quality and reliability in their vehicles.

GMC, on the other hand, has built a reputation for rugged performance and upscale design. The brand’s Denali and AT4 sub-brands exemplify this dual focus, offering unparalleled capability alongside premium amenities. GMC’s impressive lineup, including the Sierra and the all-new Hummer EV, appeals to a wide range of buyers, from off-road enthusiasts to those seeking luxury in a durable package. By combining innovation with a focus on customer needs, GMC continues to expand its reach and strengthen its position in the market.
