GM Dominates in Quarter 3 Full-Size Pickup and Large SUV Segments
According to their Q3 earnings deck, GM took the lead in the full-size pickup and large SUV segments. This marked GM’s best year-to-date sales performance since 2007. The collective sales of the Sierra and the Chevy Silverado reaffirmed GM’s dominance in the overall full-size pickup truck sales in the U.S., extending their industry leadership streak to seven consecutive quarters.

The GMC Sierra experienced a noteworthy surge, registering a substantial 46% increase compared to the 50,169 units sold in the corresponding period the previous year. This performance marked the Sierra’s most successful third quarter and year-to-date sales numbers. The strategic improvements and broadening of the Sierra lineup by GMC have has paved the way for success, resonating effectively with customers in the full-size pickup segment.
GM was also a leader in the large SUV segment, for Q3 of 2023. GM boasted a market share exceeding 60% year-to-date, which is more than three times higher than its closest competitor. A pivotal element in GM’s dominance in the large SUV segment was the triumph of the Cadillac Escalade, securing the top position in the Large Luxury SUV segment. Additionally, the strong performance of the Yukon lineup significantly contributed to GM’s success in Q3. The combined sales of Yukon and Yukon XL surpassed the segment average, further bolstering GM’s overall performance.
