Smarter, stronger, and bigger, the all-new 2020 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty combines greater trailering capability with technologies designed to provide customers with a world-class towing experience. GMC has just released a video, on YouTube, that digs deeper into the new 2020 Sierra HD’s capabilities.

In the video, General Motors’ Chief Engineer, Marissa West, covers many of the highlights the new 2020 GMC Sierra HD offers. West leads the video by going into detail about how the 2020 Sierra HD achieves its best-in-class, available, max towing capacity of up to 35,500 lbs. The 2020 Sierra HD’s 35,500-pound max tow rating requires 3500 Regular Cab, dual-rear-wheel, long box 2WD model with available 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel engine and gooseneck hitch.

West goes on to discuss other important highlights of the Next Generation Sierra Heavy Duty pickup; such as its beefed up frame enhancements and improved engine cooling enhancements. The improved frame helps both with towing capability and with ride/handling characteristics.

Optimal engine cooling is made possible by new features, such as:

  • fan size increased by 2.5″ inches to a max diameter of 28″
  • functional hood vent
  • increased frontal area
  • variable controlled fan
  • Engine after run, (automatically turns engine on for up to 15 minutes to be able to cool down in a controlled manner)
